Recently I had a maternity session that was planned to be taken by the lake. I was fully on board because I love having nature and water in my photos (the few months of the year that's possible in Wisconsin). However, the day before the shoot I went to scout locations and the lake flies were just awful. I knew it wasn't going to work, especially since we had a toddler being included too!
The lake flies threw a wrench into my plans and all of my typical nature locations were out because they would all have the same problem. After racking my brain for a bit, I had the perfect idea of going to Downtown Appleton, no water so no flies!
I have done many photo sessions in the downtown areas of many of the Fox Cities, but for some reason have never used it for maternity. I think it's because many of the moms and myself think of maternity as being these beautiful, natural images.
However, after doing this recent session in Appleton, I'm IN LOVE!!! The variety you can get in this kind of setting is amazing! There were flowering trees, green parks, brick walls, beautiful colored doors, wood, etc. The options are endless and it may be my new favorite. It just goes to show you that being flexible can make way for something beautiful!
